Field Trip: Snowshoe at Emmons Creek

Three segments of the Ice Age Trail come together at the Emmons Creek trailhead in southeastern Portage County.  We plan to choose one of the three, based on trail conditions, most likely the Far-away-valley loop, a scenic trail through conifer and hardwood woods and along Emmons Creek. The hike should take about two hours.

We will meet at the trailhead parking area on the south side of Stratton Lake Road, about a quarter mile south and east of the intersection with Fountain Lake Road and Emmons Creek Road. Take highway 54 east from Plover about 16 miles to Portage County highway D, or highway 54 about 7 miles west from Waupaca to highway D. Take D south from 54 for 2 miles and continue south on Stratton Lake Road where D turns to the west.  We expect to start at 1 PM and finish the walk around 3 PM.
